“The absence of government capacity is one of the main causes of poverty and misery in the world … Without an efficient state that works with active and involved citizens, there is not much chance of achieving the growth necessary to abolish global poverty.”
Nobel Prize in Economics A. Deaton
Fondazione Etica designs and implements innovative social impact activities. The idea may seem abstract or even smoky, but in countries like Britain and the US it has long been a cultural model even before being political and economic.
Simply the answer to the need to rethink a model of overall development of a community, taking note of the failure of the models that have succeeded until today. Failure demonstrated by the continuation of the global economic and financial crisis:
“We are used to thinking about innovation, the real one, as something that happens in universities and in the laboratories of large companies. That’s where the real scientists are at work, with their advanced knowledge and exclusive skills, to churn out new products – machines, washing machines, vacuum cleaners – which bring new benefits for everyone. The state takes care of social issues, with its social services, health system, economic and development policies. Political organizations put pressure on the state: parties, trade unions and social movements, which emphasize things that are not, or that go wrong and that consequently need action. And the three spheres remain clearly separated. ”
This system no longer works.
This is demonstrated by the general impoverishment, social inequalities, the consequent social tensions, the incapacity of the States to cope with new social needs, the high level of public inefficiency and corruption.
The countries of the G8, and in particular Italy, will have to face, in the next few years, a strong need for spending not covered for welfare services: hence the importance that social innovation becomes the connection area between the need for incompressible services, the inadequacy of resources available to the public decision-maker, the search for profit of investors. No longer distinct and sometimes opposed subjects, but partners of a functioning and modern society, even before being ideal and just.
